While the concept of Pay Yourself First is probably not new to most of you already familiar with personal finance basic but it remains one of the most important financial habits to be financially independent. The idea of pay yourself first is paramount in the minds of rich people. It is fundamental to their lives. Each month before spending the first dollar of your pay-check, pay yourself first. If possible, automate the Pay Yourself First process such as direct-deposit deductions that you could arrange with your bank. Once you have built up sufficient savings you could use the savings to fund your investment activities that will provide you with stream of passive income.
In his book Automatic Millionaire David Bach shows us a system that is powerfully simple, and automatically effective, a life-changing system that delivers. Do it once, the rest is automatic. The book begins with the powerful story of an average American couple whose joint income never exceeds $55,000 a year, yet who somehow manage to own two homes debt-free, put two kids through college, and retire at 55 with more than $1 million in savings. Through their story we learn that to get rich we need to have a plan to pay yourself first that is totally automatic, a plan that will automatically secure your future and pay for your present.
If pay yourself first is such simple and easy why can't everyone get rich? The reasons I believe are boiled down to three Ds. Discipline, Dedication and Desire. Many people are living on 105% of their gross income and have nothing left over with which to pay themselves. They want to wait another day to start saving and the other day never come. Thus, instead of paying themselves first, they pay everyone else first. The lack of discipline to save need to be addressed first and it starts from you. Dedication referring to the willpower to ensure the success your financial freedom plan, to ignore the occasionally criticism and to overcome any obstacles along the road to financial freedom. And the Desire to be financially free must be strong. Think of few compelling reasons why you believe the road to financial freedom is worth doing and important to you and your family. This will keep you going and never give up.
The idea of being financially free is to be one day do not need to worry of money, to do what we always like to do, to work only when we are pleased.
The simple first step to achieve this is to pay yourself first. Do it now.
To your success and happiness.
